In the old gym I would use the cambered bar for close grip bench press but the new gym only has 110lb pre-mounted weight on the cambered bar, so I only use the bar for curling.

I do 3 sets of close grip bench with it for tricept day. I do it just like a normal bench day except my thumbs are 1" apart.

I read a long time ago that it was supposed to help on flat. However in my older years I think for flat benching it would pull your shoulders downward and apart too much to be healthy, to actually get the bar to touch your chest.

^^^yeah, the idea being if I take the bar 3" deeper than normal, then I'm not going to have a problem getting a flat bar off my chest. Well, shirts today have made it almost impossible for the bar to stall at the bottom. It's going to come up regardless of how much weight is on the bar. It's now a question of how much can you lockout; in other words, how much triceps do you have.

Agreed that shirts move the weight of the chest, but is it not a good idea to have some actual extra drive coming off the chest. Putting all the faith into a shirt getting the weight moving seems like asking for a injury to me.

Actually, I think you're more prone to injury by dramatically increasing the ROM of the exercise as Scorp indicates. If you want more drive off the chest, then do more speed work and incline bb presses.

Fitst off flat bench is second to incline!

with cambered bar it puts to much stress on the rotator and tie ins for shoulder clavicle.. personally i would tell you NOT to do it then i would talk about you to my buddies at the gym like a little 14 year old scholl girl
